The World’s First 4G Phone Ever: Sprint’s HTC Evo 4G

Categories: , ,

As expected, Sprint has just unveiled the world’s first 4G Phone at CTIA 2010, the HTC Evo 4g.
The WiMax handset, HTC EVO brings a huge, 4.3-inch touchscreen, 1 GHz Snapdragon processor,1 GB flash ROM, 512 MB RAM Android 2.1, 8 GB microSD included, HTC Sense UI, 8 MP camera with HD-capable video recording, forward-facing 1.3 MP camera, kickstand, HDMI out, 802.11b/g WiFi and Media player with 3.5mm stereo headset jack.
If the first 4G phone wasn’t enough of a reason, that’s a pretty good list of motivation, isn’t it?!
However, adding another piece of motivation, the EVO is capable of serving as a 4G hot spot for up to 8 Wi-Fi-enabled devices. If you’re outside one of the 27 cities that is equipped for Wi-Fi, the phone doubles as a 3G handset offering service over Sprint 3G.
Sprint puts a huge focus on multimedia, and boasts that the EVO can download music, pictures, files, or videos “in seconds – not minutes”. It will also offer an excellent medium for streaming video.
After all that, there’s only two main questions: availability and pricing. As rumored, the Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G will be launched this summer, but pricing has not yet been divulged.
You can get the ball rolling with pre-registration at Sprint’s official website. For more details, read the full press release from Sprint and check out the Evo fact sheet.
note: “Up to 10x faster” based on download speed comparison of 3G’s 600 kbps vs. 4G’s 6 Mbps. Industry published 3G avg. speeds (600 kbps-1.7 Mbps); 4G avg. speeds (3-6 Mbps). Actual speeds may vary. Sprint 4G currently available in over 25 markets and counting, and on select devices. See www.sprint.com/4G for details. Not all services available on 4G and coverage may default to 3G/separate network where 4G unavailable.
